It’s true that unemployment was at a scary level during the Clinton years. However, to simply look at the official government numbers can be misleading. After someone has been unemployed for a certain amount of time and has stopped actively searching for work, they are actually removed from the unemployment register, thus reducing the official unemployment number. This is not to say that Bush’s unemployment levels are any worse than Clinton’s, but it does raise the question of whether or not more people are actually working now.
