Mexico May Take Fence Dispute to U.N. (via washingtonpost.com)
PARIS — Mexico’s foreign secretary said Monday the country may take a dispute over U.S. plans to build a fence on the Mexican border to the United Nations.
[insert jukebox record scratch here] Yes, your web browser is working.
I’m sorry, where’s the dispute exactly? Mexico is disputing the U.S.’s right to build a fence on U.S. soil? And we’re supposed to give a crap what Mexico thinks about this? Here’s an ironic news flash for ya - we hire Mexican crimaliens to build the fence for us for two cents an hour. And right at the last minute, we catapult each and every one of them back over to the other side from whence they came.
El bite me-o.

Democrats’ “America Needs a New Direction” Video

The Democrats have posted a new propaganda video to their Campaign Committee website: DCCC.org: New Directions Video
Two items of note within the first 30 seconds or so:
- The use of images of soldiers’ flag-draped coffins. I’m fairly certain it’s the left that’s been crying foul over the Republican party’s "war profiteering". I guess when your party’s desparate to take back the government though, they’ll do so by any means necessary. What shame. What hypocrisy.
- Weather/satellite images. You’re not serious? I mean, is the implication here that the president is somehow responsible for global climate change? Putting aside the liberal idiots who actually believe that Bush’s past few years in office have been enough to allow him to destroy the earth’s ecosystem. This is completely rhetorical because the answer of course is: Yes, they do believe that. He’s also responsible for the spread of AIDS in Africa, spotty cell phone reception, and the Starbucks lady screwing up my morning latte. Get a clue.
Sidebar: The last frame of the video encourages us to “SIGN UP TO JOIN THE FIGHT FOR A DEMOCRATIC MAJORITY TODAY.” We have a democratic majority. We always have a democratic majority, no matter who is in office because both parties are always democratically elected. The correct term is Democrat majority. Know the language.
George Will: The Language Imperative

A passage from Will’s column on bilingualism in the American voting process:
… what public good is advanced by encouraging the participation of people who, by saying they require bilingual assistance, are saying they cannot understand the nation’s political conversation? By receiving such assistance, they are receiving a disincentive to become proficient in English.
…
If you are to be welcomed to the enjoyment of American liberty, then America has a few expectations of you. One is that you can read the nation’s founding documents and laws, and can comprehend the political discourse that precedes the casting of ballots.
Is this unreasonable? Of course not.
Eloquently put, as always.
City to crackdown on illegal immigration

Via Yahoo! News - City to crackdown on illegal immigration:
HAZLETON, Pa. - With tensions rising and its police department and municipal budget stretched thin, this small northeastern Pennsylvania city is about to begin what the mayor calls one of the toughest crackdowns on illegal immigrants in the United States.
“Illegal immigrants are destroying the city,” said Mayor Lou Barletta, a Republican. “I don’t want them here, period.”
Last week Barletta introduced, and the City Council tentatively approved, a measure that would revoke the business licenses of companies that employ illegal immigrants; impose $1,000 fines on landlords who rent to illegal immigrants; and make English the city’s official language.
Good on ya, Mr. Barletta. Good on ya. If the federal government is going to stick its head in the sand over this political time bomb, then action must be taken at the local-most level.
