- Severin is libertarian on social and economic issues, and isolationist on international affairs, supporting Pat Buchanan’s ideology. Arguing that Republicans are less socialist than Democrats, he reluctantly voted for George W. Bush in 2000 and 2004, and is planning to vote for a republican in 2008. However he has vehemently criticized Bush’s policy on Iraq war for risking the lives of US troops unnecessarily after it was found that there was no weapons of mass destruction. (He was in favor of it before the status of WMDs was known.)
- While Severin abhors many prominent democrats, especially Hillary Clinton and Ted Kennedy, often calling one or another “fat socialist pig” on his radio program, he expresses some respect for a few members of the Democratic party such as John Kerry, Joe Lieberman, and Chuck Schumer for their intellect (The last democrat he truly admires is John F. Kennedy because he was “hawkish”.) However, he asserts that “all democrats are socialist, and all socialists are communists” (In Jay Severin has issues. January 14, 2006.) He calls himself “a radical independent” voting for the Republican Party.
- As of January 2006, Severin stated that he would vote for Mitt Romney in the 2008 presidential election over John McCain or Rudolph Giuliani.
- As a libertarian, Severin supports the drug legalization for marijuana, cocaine, and even heroin (but not for drugs such as PCP, that has a known effect to promote anti-social acitivity). He openly admits that he had used both marijuana and cocaine in the distant past, but not heroin (In Jay Severin has issues. January 10, 2006). He is also against Affirmative Action from a libertarian standpoint.
- On international politics, Severin maintains that US should use weapons of mass destruction as a primary and sole weapon and all the US had to do was “drop a nuke on Afghanistan and Iraq, instead of putting Americans soldiers at risk unnecessarily (In Jay Severin has issues January 23, 2006).” However, he does specify that when he says ‘nuke’ he does not necessarily mean nuclear weapons, but rather any of the many high explosive weapons that are part of the United States arsenal. Specifically, Severin refers to the MOAB. (In Extreme Games May 11, 2005).
- He proposes, as part of his “Severin doctrine”, that the US should regularly keep B1 bombers above five capitals of Arabic nations and drop nuclear weapons in case terrorist attacks using WMD by Islamic fundamentalist occurs on US soil (In Jay Severin has issues January 23, 2006).” He states that the this threat will create cooperation, although under duress, by Arab countries to participate in the locating and neutralizing terrorist groups operating in their countries.
- He supports the right to die, claiming that any person should be able to make his/her own decision to die at any moment.
- He is in favor of capital punishment.
- Severin supports the USA PATRIOT Act and wiretapping without a warrant of suspected terrorists inside the US, arguing that the Bush administration is keeping a right balance between individual liberty and national security, and that foreign agents do not have any US constitutional rights.
- He asserts that no immigrants in US, including both legal and illegal, have any US constitutional rights. He has on numerous occasions stated that he does not apply this view to naturalized citizens of the US.
- Severin is pro-choice, opposing partial birth abortion, as he thinks that abortion is not the business of the federal government (In Jay Severin has issues. January 9, 2006).
- Unlike other conservative radio hosts, he does not profess to believe in any religion.
- He thinks that English should be an official language of the United States (In Jay Severin has issues. January 10, 2006).
- Severin supports the building a wall along US/Mexico border with military presence, and deportation of all illegal immigrants. He also claims that the US should remain a Anglo Saxon dominated country, and the rising afro-chicano Spanish speaking population is one of the greatest concern that the nation faces, because of high crime rate, lack of work ethics, and reluctance to adapting new culture in that population (In Jay Severin has issues. January 16, 2006).
- He is against “homosexual marriage” (Severin refuses to use the term “gay marriage”).
- He claims that he is an environmentalist.
- He has been voting for Republican for at least the past 25 years.
- On 2008 campaign, he believes that the only Republican who can beat Hillary Clinton is John McCain. Although he thinks Mitt Romney will make a great president, he does not think Romney can win against Clinton.
